Guitarist, Composer and
Arranger, Cheong Xion Gi, who cites Brazilian music as a major
influence spent a year in Rio De Janeiro after graduating from the
Berklee College of Music, ha practically “done it all” in
the local music scene from playing club gigs to playing and recording
as a secessionist for local and foreign Artistes.
Xion Gi has performed with various groups in Music Festivals such as The Rainforest World Music Festival with Akar Umbi, Langkawi Festival of Arts with Asiabeat and the Kuala Lumpur Arts Festival. His voice on guitar is laconic and softly spoken as the man himself, who favors short sweet phrases, dense chords modulations, and an occasional yearning guitar sols Cheong's style has been described as “mellow, feel-good laid-back” - a tone which is rich yet unadorned with the warm melodic sound of an unaffected guitar. Joining him for the festival is Andy Peterson on bass, Mac Chew on keyboard, Badar on percussions and John Thomas on drums. |
